For a small site in San Francisco, a narrow and long unit on the top floor required a deck with access to both levels, tying the floors to the intimate garden in the rear. The bedroom was small and the ceiling’s steep pitch because of the roof line required a sensitive solution to adding a doorway that would open the deck to the bedroom without compromising the intimacy of the space. The exterior decking was to be considered as contrasting modern high-tech component yet with a warmth and residential feel.
