I designed this house around 1991 at a time when I lived on the lower level of a small rental house in Fairfax, CA. Living nestled in the revine of hillsides surrounding our house and covered with trees, almost always in the shade in that location, I was moved by the possibility of designing a home with a view set along the hillside. I of course took this que from Frank Lloyd Wright’s statement that placing a home on top of the hill ruins the hill, but placing it on the side of the hill improves the hill. I loved that fact that once could hug a hillsides by mimicing the curves of nature.
