What makes a city livable? What are the main differences between living in a suburban devlopment and an urban center. Density is usually a key factor in establishing livable cities, and with that comes the most sustainable of all objectives, using less energy per area per person in a densly populated area and taking up less land than in suburbs. This also includes less driving around. Of course the benefits of living in suburbs are the peaceable surroundings and other amenities not readily accessible in cities. This study looks at the the pluses and minuses of each. It was an early study that we completed around 2010, reviving downtown districts requires a certain personality type as much as it does good design and good city planning, thus by looking at the different types of opportunities for both plus and minus in both suburbs and urban environments, we’re able to assess the benefits of creating and investing in urban centers.
