Open Atelier Architects has designed a new 15,000 sq ft. daycare and gym facility for Shining Stars Daycare in Manlius, NY. The design features designated rooms for infants, toddlers, three-year-olds, four-year-olds and school age kids. In addition, there are several gathering rooms, a library, lunch room and two offices. The gymnasium features 23-foot ceilings to accommodate full court sports and is supported by outsized wood trusses. The barn shape of the gymnasium was developed as a fun feature for the kids and also worked well with existing commercial buildings in the vicinity. The building’s residential look is a response to the type of materials used on nearby homes and serves as a transition from residential into commercial. The new building will be built alongside the existing building as to not interfere with operations during the construction period. The owners are very pleased with the design and are looking forward to enjoying their new facility.
