Notleymere Residence

Cazenovia, NY
The Notleymere, constructed in the late 1800s, has a storied past of additions and alterations. Open Atelier was enthusiastic to participate in this home’s perpetual evolution. The residence has changed hands and sizes over the years and experienced three distinct phases of growth before our intervention. In order to respect both the character of The Notleymere and the views of the planning commission, we proposed an addition in keeping with the visual character of the existing shingle style home. Although the addition’s exterior elevations blended with the existing facade, the addition’s form allowed us to introduce a novel courtyard as a threshold to mediate between the house and the expansive backyard.
