Carmel Valley, CA
Working on this custom high end home while employed with the firm of Michael Rex Associates, this project required a contemporary solution that could take advantage of the great expanse of the Carmel Valley views and provide the client with a house rich enough and spacious enough to display their art work. The steep sloping site and tight constraints posed a challenge in situating the house. In addition, the client was very particular about lighting for viewing of artwork. Perched atop a hillside overlooking Carmel Valley, CA, and the mountain range at a distance, the home was designed and sited to take advantage of views, with large spaces for social gathering, as well as smaller niches for intimate settings. As Project Architect, I oversaw general design detailing and construction administration. I worked on key design features such as a stone fireplace surround, a built in home theater system and metal panel fireplace walls that provided a rich contrast to the lightness and airiness created by a limestone floor and Alaskan yellow cedar trim work and ceilings throughout the house.
