The International Boxing Hall of Fame located in a small town in upstate New York has been an established hallmark for boxing enthusiasts from around the world for over twenty five years. Run by Mr. Ed Brophy, who has built the facility’s incredible library of memorabilia, has run out of room and requires more space to exhibit such famous artifacts as robes, fist casts, videos, hand bills, plaques, belts and thousands of other items.
The plan was to encase and highlight the one grand feature of the museum in a special space that accentuates its importance. The boxing ring that was used at Madison Square Garden for 82 years now resides in Canastota, NY. The design embraces and celebrates this monumental feature with a pyramid shaped expressive design in order to emphasize its importance. Associated with this ring is over eight thousand square feet of gallery space that will exhibit permanent and temporary collections, a reading and research library that contains the worlds largest material on boxing in one location and a small gift shop along with administration facilities.
The challenge was to site the building well enough to be noticeable from the I-90 Interchange as well as keeping with the local neighborhood pattern. Project
