Fort Lamar section of Charleston, SC
This project presented an opportunity to design a single story house that offers nurturing for an active single person with a busy schedule. The lot was long and narrow, which required the house to be set far back enough to be isolated from the street and take advantage of the marshland just behind the site. This is where the best views for the property were located. The barrel Vault ties the house together in a way that allows both the front and rear yard to flow through the house, yet provide two distinct experiences. The house is sited to take advantage of natural marshland surrounded by beautiful woodlands. The interior vaulted glue-lam beams march through the house in succession, dominating the rhythmic harmony created by dividing each space yet allowing living room, dinning room and study to interact with each other.
