The new Marriott Hotel opened to great fanfare this month on Fayette Street. I heard the opening ceremony was a hoot, with all the who’s who hobnobbing about. I couldn’t make it but I sure would have loved to have been there that night. However I did walk through the hotel the other day while strolling through that part of the city. The outside is designed in grand Marriott fashion, although I wish they had selected a brighter color than that dark grey. Don’t get me wrong, I really dig deep dark & cool, but I think Syracuse needs color right now, it’s been in the dark for so long. Overall, it’s a fitting addition for Syracuse.
Though the outside design tends to be an ordinary, but well designed facade, the inside lobby and amenities are designed in very cool modern textures and colors. It’s hip, modern and colorful, something Syracuse is in need of in a real big way. There is a bar, with a really slick modern fireplace and lounging areas galore. It is a great hang out place in Syracuse that seems perfectly suited for adult business casual meetings and a place to just unwind after a hectic day at the office.
With a combo Residence Inn and Courtyard Hotel, it makes the hotel poised to sell Syracuse as a place to stay for short or long term encounters. Can’t wait to see what else will spawn now that downtown is being transformed into an oasis of real urban culture and activity.
