Let’s face it, American’s are moving away from cigarette smoking. The American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association have done bang up jobs in promoting healthier lifestyles. With so much cancer around us, why would anyone want to chance it anyway?
Beats me, but take a walk along S. Warren Street and you’ll find a whole group of inhalers bucking this trend. It’s light up central. En mass, workers from Sutherland’s pour down into the street, light up, causing our staff to close our windows, so much for natural ventilation, and leave visible signs that they were here and exercising their right to impose cancer causing carcinogenic chemicals for others to breath in.
I’m no expert, but if I were to guess, I would say there is an epidemic here in Syracuse the likes I have never seen in any other city or country I’ve visited. Even Europeans, who still puff away frantically, don’t hold a candle to the puff power of S. Warren Street inhalers.
Choosing to smoke is a personal decision, no one should take that away from any individual. But as I choose not to smoke, I prefer not inhaling in all that smoke. The Galleries has set aside areas for smokers to do their thing, but of course, since it’s not happening I can only assume it’s all smoke and mirrors.
