Follow up: Hear Mr. Park’s full presentation here:
Peter J. Park, visiting professor of Harvard University’s graduate school of design, will be in Syracuse next week to talk about the Interstate-81 project. His visit is part of a three-speaker lecture series on the topic, co-sponsored by Mayor Miner, County Executive Joanie Mahoney and State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald.
Park has extensive background in urban planning after serving as planning director for the cities of Milwaukee and Denver. His major projects included the replacement of the elevated Park East freeway with an at-grade boulevard that sparked development in downtown Milwaukee and the restructuring of Denver’s zoning code. He is widely recognized for his contribution to transportation design and land use planning practice.
Park teaches at the University of Colorado and owns his own firm Peter J. Park, LLC, a city planning and design consulting practice.
It certainly won’t hurt to have a little outside perspective on this debate. Join the community for this free lecture at 6 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Carrier Theater in the Onondaga County Civic Center. Check out an advance from Syracuse.com on his visit.
