Our office was recently privy to a presentation on Smart Home Technology and advancements in Home Automation. The instructor, a “Savant Integrator,” filled us in on all of the ways that home automation is becoming more affordable and easier to install and use. Savant is a rather young company (2005), but seems to be leaps and bounds above competitors when it comes to usability and mobile oriented solutions.
The Savant way of Smart home-ing involves the use of just one remote that can connect to any number of devices, appliances, and applications to control things from lighting to entertainment and security. The system can be hard-wired, can work based off of WiFi, or any combination of the two. Ranging in scope from full automation in high end spaces to basic entertainment and security options for the average Joe, Savant has the capability to provide solutions to just about anyone seeking an upgraded experience in their home or work space.
Some of the coolest features:
Voice controlled remote: Say “goodnight” to the remote and voila, everything turns off!
Entertainment Options: Set various mood settings, connect to speakers, add streaming services, play video games all controlled with one remote.
Lighting Options: Everything from landscaping to mood lighting can be controlled for ambiance and efficiency.
Security: Set alarms, peep on visitors, allow access while away.. you name it, your house is sealed.
Updates: Inevitably you will want to make changes to your original preferences. With this product you can easily make those adjustments without the help of a coder.
There are many systems on the market today that can individually handle all of our home automation needs, but few that work together in a user friendly format and with one central control – that doesn’t even have to be attached to your wall as previous models had.
Some words of advice from our “Integrator” were:
- Consider any smart home features before you even hire an electrician. If planned in advance, the system will be at its most affordable.
- Add cable everywhere when you have an open wall. As technology changes, the cabling can be connected to add more features as they are desired.
- Find a great technology partner that can help you achieve your goals! (High recommendations for NCS! )
So, if your dream is to control your home or office with the flick of a switch, you are in luck. There are reliable systems that are customizable, can scale up or down and are relatively affordable. To learn more or get your own integrator, check out Savant.
