The Congress for New Urbanism has put out a report listing “Freeways with no Future” and the I81 Viaduct through Syracuse has made the list. The group cites highways based on the following criteria:
Age and design of structures
Potential cost savings
Ability to improve both overall mobility and local access
Existence of pending infrastructure decisions
The CNU supports many of Syracuse’s community leaders in believing the region would be strengthened by removing the highway in favor of a well planned boulevard. To read the full report visit: www.cnu.org
It is interesting to note that seven of the 15 highlighted highways in the 2014 report are located in New York State. What does this mean for New York and prioritization of infrastructure spending?
