Raymour & Flanigan, Manhattan | RenovationObjective: Raymour and Flanigan is a premier furniture retailer in the Northeast. This flagship store located directly across from Lincoln Center in Manhattan was designed to appeal to the contemporary and modern tastes of New York City dwellers, while still maintaining the firm's inviting, family-focused appeal. Natural materials and a selective color palette create an alluring backdrop for the furniture show pieces while modern design elements provide a luxurious shopping environment.
Kinney Drugs | Ground UpThis Kinney Drugs was designed as an anchor of a mixed use development on Butternut and Townsend Streets. Its creation was triggered by the recent construction of St. Joseph’s hospital across the street. This strategically located pharmacy will work in tandem with the nearby hospital to bring health to the region. The site planning of this Kinney Drugs deviates from the typical suburban drug store. Instead of withdrawing from the sidewalk, this store embraces and activates it with windows and lighting. Instead of presenting an island of parking to the street, this store presents activity.
Raymour and Flanigan, Farmingdale | RenovationObjective: Open Atelier transformed this former deteriorating outlet center into a stunning free standing Raymour and Flanigan Showroom. OA successfully completed the design and construction administration under an accelerated schedule, allowing the store to open on schedule. The building is sited near major highways and the stores signage takes advantage of its exceptional visibility.
Party City | RenovationOpen Atelier Architects is excited to assist Party City in expanding its nearly nation-wide presence by renovating an existing tenant slot. The retail slot is settled in a Watertown, NY outlet center, but this location was too narrow for Part City’s needs. OA extended the tenant’s perimeter to an optimal size (13,000 s.f.) capable of sheltering the store’s proven prototypical model. OA also propelled the project through the approval process with concise building code analysis and rapid, yet sincere, generation of façade imagery for the planning board.
Raymour and Flanigan | Concept
Objective: Create a concept that would rebrand the firms image from a traditional furniture retailer to a contemporary, modern audience while maintaining the Raymour and Flanigan identity. The design elements chosen include clean lines, bright colors, and the use of natural materials such as bamboo and cherry. Wide swaths of refined colors with hints of brilliance combined with iridescent art work by Ned Kahn complete the look.
Raymour & Flanigan is the 7th largest furniture retailer in the United States. oa is a selected architect providing design and permitting for retail stores, warehouse facilities and value centers across the Northeast.
Gazoontite | BrandingObjective: As one of the originators of click and motor retailers of the mid to late 90's, Gazoontite's goal was to convey healthy alternatives to products geared toward asthma and hyper allergenic concerns. OA’s challenge for this store was to design a space that translated the firms’ online presence into a brick and mortar store experience. Kiosks were located throughout the store to promote online activity and engage the consumer in another medium. A natural, earthy color pallet was chosen and the use of bamboo as a sustainable, earth friendly material further communicated the firms’ dedication to healthy lifestyles. The result – A physical brand identity that matched the values and image set by the stores online presence.
Raymour and Flanigan, Secaucus | RenovationObjective: “The Furniture is the Star” at Raymour and Flanigan. This stores location in Secaucus, New Jersey, mandated a design that appealed to families and home comfort as well as upscale elegance. OA used Raymour and Flanigan's traditional decor including warm elements and lighting to create a pleasant shopping ambiance. The result is a welcoming environment that best highlights the showroom pieces.
Bresee Chevrolet, Syracuse | RenovationObjective: OA has been working with Bresee Chevrolet in Syracuse, NY, to update the feel of their showroom to conform to a set of standards set by GM. In order to meet the needs of the corporate look, our drawings focused on enhancing the entire customer experience from purchasing and sales to maintenance and service. Changes to the layout improved flow and efficiency while design elements tied in to create that Chevy feel.
Taylor Rental | Facade RenovationObjective: A pop of red! This remodel concept sought to bring some color to the dreary dark facade and increase building efficiency. OA was successful at incorporating the company brand that included a red logo throughout the exterior of the space and also replaced a window wall that was deteriorating. New metal panels allowed for a reduction of energy consumption in the summer months and added an insulation barrier during the cold upstate New York winters.
